Every few days I read through some blogging news using the Zite iPad app.  Many of the topics there don’t interest me.  I write this blog mainly for myself and I don’t make money or promote a business with it.  More traffic isn’t really an end unto itself. But connecting with others is something that I do enjoy.

I think what caught my attention for the Ultimate Blog Challenge was both the idea to challenge myself to write more consistently and to perhaps connect with other bloggers.  Blogging consistently has been an issue for me in the past, and with a new job keeping me busy it’s difficult to put thoughts into comprehensible words after the all day grind.  But I’ve been doing better, and since November I’ve been on here a lot more.

The connections part is also of interest to me.  I think one of the best things about blogs, the internet, and life in general is making connections with other people.  These connections take on all forms sometimes even turning into friendships.  One of my favorite lines from the movie Contact is about how in this big universe our connections with each other are what matters.  ”…the only thing we’ve found that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.”  I certainly don’t feel empty in my life, but I know that connections enrich our lives and often make us better people and a better world.

So although I’ve never subscribed to a blogging challenge that I can remember, I will join this one with an open mind and see what happens.
