I’ve been an Amazon.com shopper for many years now. My first order was in March of 1998 – I ordered books for a class I was taking. I remember they were much cheaper than in the University bookstore. That’s when Amazon was primarily an online bookstore, but now it’s become so much more. When I’m looking for just about anything I check Amazon.
Why do I do this? I think it is partly because now I trust Amazon. I’ve ordered from them many times and always gotten great service. Things ship quickly, and I’ve even returned several items without a problem. Once I ordered from them through a third party and the order got messed up. I was actually able to call and talk to a person who fixed the problem for me! That doesn’t even happen at brick and mortar stores sometimes. Now I’m an Amazon Prime member so everything ships free in two days. I swear I can go to the website and within 4-5 clicks the item I want is on its way. It’s just amazing.
Why do I find this so fascinating? I think it’s because Amazon embodies what we thought an online retailer would be like. You can shop for just about anything, and there are so many things you can’t get locally. You know, you go to the mall and it’s always the same stuff. I almost wish I could go shopping at Amazon, but it would be like a football stadium and I would get lost.
